A reactivity result is more than a stopwatch reading
A purchasing specification may describe quicklime reactivity with a time, a temperature endpoint or a slaking-rate result. Before ranking two offers, establish what each number measures. ASTM’s public description of C110 identifies physical testing of lime, including quicklime slaking rate. A catalog shorthand is not a substitute for the agreed test procedure.
Ask for the comparison basis
Our suggested enquiry checklist starts with the named method and edition, reported endpoint and units, sample identification and preparation, and the conditions recorded by the laboratory. Ask the technical team which details are necessary for its acceptance decision. Two results that use different endpoints should not be treated as directly comparable simply because both are expressed in seconds.
The public descriptions of standards identify their scope; laboratories should consult the complete applicable procedure. This article does not supply a test recipe or claim that a supplier is certified to a standard.
Connect the laboratory result with the process
Lhoist’s slurry information explains that lime characteristics, water quality and slaking conditions influence the resulting milk of lime. That background supports a practical distinction: laboratory reactivity and satisfactory performance in a plant are related questions, but they are not the same approval.
Ask the plant to define what a sample trial must demonstrate under its own equipment and water conditions. Do not transfer another supplier’s branded performance figures to Hong Ha material.
Record the decision in the offer
- Product and physical format offered.
- Required reactivity parameter, method and acceptance limit.
- Relevant analysis and sample or batch reference.
- Trial responsibilities and approval criteria.
- How repeat shipments will be checked.
Resolve unexplained results before agreeing repeat supply. A clear testing basis makes subsequent technical discussions more useful than a comparison of isolated catalog headlines.
