Hydrated lime for flue-gas treatment: specify the treatment system

Distinguish dry injection, slurry-based treatment and the evidence needed for a sorbent evaluation.

The treatment system comes first

The National Lime Association describes lime use in removing acidic gases such as sulfur dioxide and hydrogen chloride. It distinguishes dry hydrated-lime injection from systems that use an atomized slurry, as well as wet scrubbing. These different configurations are a reason to state the equipment and treatment duty before selecting a material.

A general industrial hydrated-lime catalog entry does not establish suitability for every flue-gas treatment system. Ask the equipment or process team to define the required sorbent characteristics and evaluation approach.

Make the enquiry specific to the installation

Identify the treatment technology, the pollutants relevant to the site and the material form the system accepts. Include the specification issued by the plant or equipment provider. Where the system requires additional physical properties, have the technical team define the parameter and test method rather than relying on a mesh label alone.

Request the offered chemistry and relevant analysis. Do not interpret a broad application description as a guaranteed removal efficiency, emissions result or operating cost.

Build a controlled evaluation

  • Agree the proposed material and the documents required for review.
  • Record the site conditions relevant to the trial.
  • Define the measurements and acceptance criteria before starting.
  • Keep the technical approval separate from packing and freight discussions.

Any trial should be planned by the site’s responsible engineering and environmental teams. This buying guide does not set operating conditions or replace the installation’s compliance requirements.

Confirm supply after technical acceptance

Once the grade is approved, agree shipment quantities, receiving arrangements and continuity requirements. Review current SDS and packing details with the site team. If a different grade is proposed later, assess it against the same acceptance process rather than substituting it on the basis of the product name.
